After the opening weekend of the new season, Nyirimana, who won last season’s title with the National University of Rwanda (currently UR-Huye), said, "We are targeting to win as many matches as possible, which will help us in our bid to win the (league) title.”
In Pool One, champions UR-Huye started the defence of their title with two back to back losses against St Joseph and Kirehe 3-0 and 3-1 respectively, while St Joseph saw off Kirehe 3-0.
