BY RECOGNISING and rewarding the best performing girls across the country, the First Lady, Jeannette Kagame, is giving strength, courage and hope to the women of Rwanda. Gone are the days when a woman had to depend on the husband for nearly everything – like it was the case before 1994. At that time, women sold beer in hiding to make a little income.

Today, things are changing faster and voila the First Lady encouraging those little ones. There’s no doubt that they will grow up with a spirit of self-dignity. Rewarding them will also make little girls study harder to reach the sky.

Rwanda can never attain real development as long as we don’t have women in every realm of the country’s life. This is what the First Lady is doing – making sure that every girl goes to school, that she’s protected and that she has a better future.

I always thank the First Lady for her endeavours for promoting equality of a boy and a girl. Nowadays, all children are the same before the law, and parents must treat their children the same when sending them to schools.

If we continue on this road, I am sure that no African country will ever come closer to Rwanda in a few years to come.

METAPHORICALLY SPEAKING, the First Lady is the guardian who protects Rwandan girls and women from any harm. I recently read an article in this newspaper about GBV hospitals being constructed all around the country.

This is commendable and I thank the First Lady for everything that she’s doing to ensure that girls of Rwanda have hope to a prosperous and even safer future. Rewarding the girls is one of the pillars to achieve that. 

Parents should remember that all children are the same and they deserve the fruits of the country, they will also contribute to the development of the country.

We must give them a chance and all the parental support. Thank you.
