The Rwanda High Commission in Uganda yesterday launched the commemoration activities for the 20th anniversary of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

The ceremony was marked by a public discussion that involved different personalities and a question and answer session on the 1994 Genocide.

Dr. Fredrick Golooba Mutebi, an academician and researcher, informed the audience of a new Rwanda that encourages exiles to return to their country and contribute to its development, contrary to past regimes.

Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Uganda, Frank Mugambage, called upon Rwandans and the world to expose and condemn genocide ideology.

"Those who continue to propagate the genocide ideology must be fought and brought to account by all peace loving people of the world,” Mugambage told a huge audience at Kampala Serena Hotel.

Uganda’s Minister of State for Economic Monitoring, Henry Banyenzaki, hailed the Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF) for ending the Genocide.

"As we witnessed the Genocide from Kabale, nobody ever imagined that Rwanda would ever get back to its feet,” he said.

The launching ceremony leads to many other activities in Uganda that will include a visit to the Goolo memorial site in Mpigi, and a Walk to Remember to be held at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST).
