NOMINEES for this year’s Primus Guma Guma Super Star competition will be announced tomorrow at Bralirwa’s Sonatube office in Kicukiro. 

Bralirwa Marketing Manager, Martine Gatabazi said 15 artistes will be unveiled following a voting exercise by renowned critics in the entertainment industry. 

"We are currently tallying the votes.  The list of nominees will be officially announced at a press conference at our Sonatubes offices tomorrow (Wednesday)," Gatabazi said yesterday. 

However, out of the 15 nominees only 10 will make it to the final competition.  The 15 nominees will perform at a concert on March 15 at Gikondo Expo Grounds where a panel of judges and the public will vote for their favourite 10 artistes to tussle it out in the PGGSS season 4.

Primus Guma Guma Super Star, code-named PGGSS is a local annual reality singing competition which will run over five months.

The fourth edition of the competition will feature 10 artistes who will be performing in different parts of the country.

PGGSS is sponsored by Bralirwa's Primus lager as part of the company’s effort to support the music industry in Rwanda.

Primus Guma Guma targets established Rwandan artistes who compete with hope of winning grand prizes to propel their careers.

The competition is arguably the country’s biggest music competition perhaps because of its scope and the hefty awards that the winning contestants take home.

The winner of this year’s edition will receive awards valued at Rwf24million. The first runner-up will walk away with cash prizes to the tune of Rwf7.5 million, while 2nd runner-up will bag cash awards worth Rwf7 million.

The first edition winner was R&B singer Tom Close, the second edition was won by King James, while last year’s competition was won by Riderman.

The competition has in the past come under criticism for only targeting established acts and not promoting upcoming talent.
