A man from Rwamagana District allegedly stabbed and critically injured two men he suspected of having an affair with his wife, on Saturday.
Etienne Higiro told police that he returned home from work and found the two men with his wife in his house.
He added that his wife fled, while a fight ensued between him and the two men who were wielding hammers and knives.
"I left home at about 7am and returned to give my wife some money for food, only to find her with strangers. They provoked me into a fight,” Higiro said.
The couple wedded eight years ago and stays in Kigabiro Sector, Rwamagana, with their two children. Higiro is a retired soldier turned driver.
"The strangers carried hammers and knives. We engaged in a serious scuffle until I overpowered them. I stabbed them but they also injured me. One escaped but I held another until police intervened,” Higiro told security officers.
Police arrested Higiro’s wife together with one of the intruders as investigations continue.
Senior Superintendent Benoit Nsengiyunva, the Eastern Region Police Spokesman, said the search for the second intruder was still on.
"They injured the man. His wife is a suspected accomplice. We are holding the two and searching for the other one,” he said.
The family’s neighbours alleged that the two men had been hired by the woman to kill her husband, but this could not be independently verified.
