When the hunter left the forest, he went straight to his mother-in-law’s house. When he arrived there, she was very happy to see him. She greeted him happily.

The hunter’s mother-in-law had a squinted left eye, which could not see any thing.

As the old woman was busy preparing something to drink for him, a cockerel (rusake) came with his hen and chickens. They came because the old woman had put her sorghum in the sunshine to dry.

When cockerel reached where the sorghum was, he told his family that he was going to stand in front of the old woman just opposite the eye that could not see.

While he did this, his family was supposed to eat the sorghum as fast as they could.

All this time, the hunter was hearing this and he started laughing.

‘My child, what are you laughing at?” the old woman asked the hunter.

"It’s nothing,” the hunter replied.
The old woman was very annoyed. She thought that he was laughing at her because she had a bad eye.

The old woman called the elders and told them what had happened. The elders told the hunter that if he did not to tell them the truth, they would punish him.

The hunter was now very afraid. He then told the elders that he heard the cockerel telling his family a trick of how they would eat the old woman’s sorghum.

The elders asked the hunter how he understood the cockerel.

He told them that the dog had put wax in both his ears that enabled him to understand the language of animals.

This annoyed the dog that had helped him learn this new skill. The dog decided to pull out the special wax from the hunter’s ears.

After this, the hunter immediately stopped understanding the language of animals.

The animals decided to never lend the wax to human beings again.

This is the reason why people do not understand the language of animals.
