Is the computer blinding me?

Hi doctor; My name is Alex, I have been working for three years doing  work that requires me to sit on the computer most of the time. Now, I have started realising inadequacies in my sight. I have even started failing to see/ recorgnise objects or people  just a few meters away from me. I am fearing I might be becoming blind. What can I do?

Hi doctor;

My name is Alex, I have been working for three years doing  work that requires me to sit on the computer most of the time. Now, I have started realising inadequacies in my sight. I have even started failing to see/ recorgnise objects or people  just a few meters away from me. I am fearing I might be becoming blind. What can I do?

Dear Alex;

You are suffering from one of the health hazards created by computers. Sitting in front of computer screens for long and straining eyes to see the screen definitely harms the eye sight. Straining your eyes to see such close objects like a screen is affecting their ability to see far.

After working for about 1-2 hours on the computer, close the eyes for a few minutes with your hands to give them rest. If possible get up, go out and try to focus eyes on some far object.  Take time to play or move much in open fields or space.

There are specific exercises for eye muscles, which if done regularly will help to strengthen eye muscles. See that while working light should not fall behind computer screen, the screen should not be very bright.

A diet including lots of green vegetables, carrots, yellow fruits like mango,  and nuts is also useful to help a weak eye sight. But these measures can only help prevent further damage. You need to have your vision tested by an optometrist and if needed use suitable eye glasses to correct eye sight.
