Nineteen-year-old Colombe Akiwacu was yesterday crowned Miss Rwanda 2014 at the end of the beauty pageant that took place at Petit Stade in Remera.

A tearful Akiwacu waved to the crowd in disbelief as her fans chanted her name amidst deafening ululations.

She joined the contest as a representative of Eastern Province. She hopes to join university to pursue a degree in computer sciences.

Known for being peaceful, generous and serious, Akiwacu said that she was inspired to join the contest so as to use the privileged position of Miss Rwanda to help the youth shun abuse of illicte drugs.
