APR face Rubavu in opening game

THE National Basketball League season gets underway today with newly formed Gisenyi Basketball Club taking on former champions APR in Rubavu, starting at 11am.

THE National Basketball League season gets underway today with newly formed Gisenyi Basketball Club taking on former champions APR in Rubavu, starting at 11am.

The 2014 men’s national basketball league is made up of 11 clubs namely; Gisenyi, UR-Huye, College of Education, IPRC-Kigali, APR, UGB, Kigali, Espoir, Cercle Sportif de Kigali (CSK), 30 Plus BBC and Rusizi.

The federation’s general secretary Richard Mutabazi said "we decided to start the league in Rubavu so as to attract more sportsmen and women, who have played a pivotal role in forming Gisenyi Basketball Club.”

In Kigali, United Generation Basketball Club (UGB) will take on Kigali Basketball club at Camp Kigali before the reigning champions Espoir hosts 30-Plus BBC at the same venue starting at 1pm.

Espoir, who are eying the third successive league title boosted their chances of winning the local league after trouncing APR 79-46 in the final of the men’s basketball pre-season tournament in midweek.
