APR Men’s basketball club is targeting to win the pre-season tournament when they face archrivals and reigning league champions Espoir in the final tomorrow at the National Paralympics Committee gymnasium at Amahoro stadium.
The final was initially supposed to be played on Sunday at Kimisagara youth sports centre but was called off due to heavy rain.
APR reached the final after taking top spot of Pool B which also had Kigali basketball club (KBC), 30-Plus, University of Rwanda- College of Education (former K.I.E).
"Espoir is the team to beat, so the final will be tough, but we are ready to battle it out and possibly win the tournament. Winning it would inspire us to do well in the new season,” APR head coach Cliff Owuor said on Monday.
Two-time reigning champions Espoir qualified for the final after dominating their Pool A opponents, among them; United Generation basketball (UGB), Cercle sportif de Kigali (CSK) and IPRC Kicukiro.
In women’s category, the 2013 Gisembe memorial tournament winners Ubumwe won the title after winning all their round-robin matches against league champions APR (61-45), UR- College of Education (83-20) and Rwanda Allied Peace for Progress, RAPP (20-00) respectively.
The 2014 national basketball championships is set to kickoff this Saturday.
