Editor,

Since the introduction of the new transport system in the City of Kigali last year, the people of Kanombe have been in the cold, since instead of solving the few problems we faced, the new system actually brought us more agony.

We used to have buses commuting from Kanombe straight to Nyabugogo via Remera and Kacyiru, no one stood at stage for even 10 minutes before being picked up. Everything was swift and we appreciated what we had.

But since the new oligopolistic transport system was introduced last year, there are no longer taxis that ply the Kanombe-Nyabugogo route. We have to take one of Remera, and once there, you either have to tussle it with the mammoth of passengers during the peak hours, or have to wait for long before the bus can take off as they wait for passengers.

Not every Rwandan can  afford to take a taxi-moto while others simply don’t use them for safety reasons; this has made life hard for those whose place of work is around the Kinamba-Nyabugogo area.

Those who are lucky among us get a lift and report at work on time while it’s not easy for the rest.

Much as it may have been designed with good intention, serious study was supposed to be conducted before the new transport system could be rolled out, to ensure residents from all parts of the city are catered for.

We plead with city authorities to reintroduce the Kanombe-Nyabungogo route.

Thank you.
