GIKONDO EXPO ground on Valentine’s Day was the place to be for couples that love food, fun, fashion and culture as a two-day multicultural food festival opened.

Revellers were treated to a variety of traditional dance, wear and food tasting of different dishes prepared by famous city restaurants including KhanaKhazana, Hilltop Country Club, Car Wash, and Chinese Restaurants among others.

Also on the house were different cuisines from India to Egypt, Nigerian and Burundi among others. Several cultural practices were showcased including Karate while the Rwandan traditional dance was among those that thrilled those who turned up.

The event kicked off at 5pm with an opening performance from the City of Kigali traditional dance troupe before MC’s Tidjara Kabendera and Lion Imanzi came on stage to recognise the presence of different officials. 

At 7:25 pm, the Mayor of Kigali City Fidele Ndayisaba accompanied by Ambassadors representing different countries in Rwanda, toured the stands of the different restaurants.

There was plenty of food and entertainment, which made the evening worth the money. There was a raffle draw with the lucky winner walking away with an air ticket to Dubai courtesy of RwandAir while others won packages of Sulfo Rwanda and Inyange Industries products.

Mayor Ndayisaba appreciated city residents for turning up for the festival, adding that the city authorities are committed to organising more events that will make the City of Kigali a more enjoyable place to live and at the same time bring services nearer to the people.

"It is a pleasure to see different global communities here showcasing their culture and the same time learning from ours, which implies the good relations between Rwanda and different countries being represented here,” he said.

The festival was organised by the City of Kigali in partnership with Chamber of Women Entrepreneurs at the Private Sector Federation.
