KVC, RRA win Kayumba memorial Volleyball tourney

KIGALI volleyball club (KVC) men and Rwanda Revenue Authority in women’s category won this year’s edition of the annual Father Emmanuel Kayumba memorial volleyball tournament that was held at Groupe Scolaire Officiel de Butare (GSOB) on Saturday.

KIGALI volleyball club (KVC) men and Rwanda Revenue Authority in women’s category won this year’s edition of the annual Father Emmanuel Kayumba memorial volleyball tournament that was held at Groupe Scolaire Officiel de Butare (GSOB) on Saturday. 

KVC claimed the Men’s title after earning a 2-1 sets (25-22, 17-25, 25-22) over Rayon Sports, while RRA clinched the women’s category after easily defeating both Ruhungo and Huye-based Tout-age in three sets (3-0) respectively. 

Rayon Sports had reached the final after eliminating league champions APR in two sets (25-7, 25-18) in semi-finals; while KVC saw-off Lycee de Nyanza in two sets (25-23, 25-16). 

"The tournament was well organised and was held perfectly the way we wanted it to be,” said Father Rwirangira, one of the tournament organisers. 

The fourth edition of the tournament was graced by thirteen (10 men’s and 3 women’s). 

The men’s teams included; APR, KVC, National University of Rwanda, Groupe Scolaire Officiel de Butare, Petit Seminaire de Karubanda, Christ Roi de Nyanza, Lycee de Nyanza, Rayon Sports, Tout-age and Gisagara-based GS Saint Philippre, while women’s category was made up of RRA, Ruhango and Tout-age. 

The annual tournament is organized in memory of the late Father Kayumba. Father Kayumba, who passed away in 2009, was instrumental in the growth of volleyball in Groupe Scolaire Officiel de Butare.
