Results for the 2013 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) exams were released yesterday indicating a slight improvement compared to 2012 . The results were released by Education Minister Dr Vincent Biruta.
At least 21,618 candidates sat the exams in 2013 compared to 17,223 in 2012. Out of these, 19,674 ( 91%) qualified for a certificate compared to 15,664 who qualified in 2012.
Ireene Nsengiyumva, the deputy director in charge of training at WDA, attributed the improved performance to the quality of students who enroll.
"The improved performance is due to the improved selection criteria of students who sit the examinations. We closely scrutinise those who sit the examinations. One must have sat O’Level examinations in order to qualify. Previously the requirements were not as strict ,” Nsengiyumva said.
Nsengiyumva said those who failed will be allowed to sit this year’s examinations.
A total of 1,944 candidates did not qualify to get a certificate. To get a certificate a candidate must get nine points in theory and grade E in the practical exams. WDA started conducting TVET exams in 2011.
