Single or not, I personally have a strong distaste for valentine’s Day since I think it is some holiday that the commercial took and run with to make money off consumers while selling them silly ideas of love and what it should look like.

When I’m in a relationship I usually enjoy doing little things with my partner all the time that show how much we care for each other so I do not understand why one day should be dedicated to spending all this money to show this same sentiment.
Every single woman I have met in the last few days is complaining about the fact that they do not know what to do with their lives come Friday.
So this had me thinking; what will I do or what should my single friends do on the dreaded holiday?
• Go out for a lovely wine and dine with your closest single friends: I like this idea simply because if the day is about love, why not share some with your closest girlfriends? Have a dinner and talk about loving yourselves and your friends and family while having a great meal. If you’re not too tired after, why not hit the town for a little dancing?
• Mani-pedi: This is also a good one. Treat yourself to a nice spa day at any of the nail salons around town. Get off work and make sure you book an appointment because you don’t want to be fighting for a spot with the girl who has a date, so book an appointment and don’t let anyone ruin your mani-pedi. Be beautiful!
• Dinner and a movie…by yourself! Try that new recipe you’ve been putting off all month, with a nice glass of wine and enjoy a good movie.
• For men: Just go out with your friends, have a drink or two and have a good night out.
Over the years I have changed my views on Valentine’s Day and have become very comfortable being single on this day. Some years I did have someone but luckily I have always dated men who did not see the point of making a big deal out of the day; it’s fine to take a few moments and enjoy time with the person you love without him having to spend thousands of francs on flowers (which I don’t like), and chocolate (which will just go to my hips and waist), and then after that have to take me to some extravagant dinner, at the same restaurant as another 10-15 couples looking all ‘googley eyed’ at each other.
Anyway, I know a lot of people who enjoy this day so I’m not going to steal the joy - just trying to show that single ladies and lads can have a good time on that day too.
What do you my 21st century friends think?
