Bitok names final squad for World Cup qualifiers

Volleyball national team head coach Paul Bitok has named the final 12-man team for the 2014 FIVB World Championships qualifiers, which is slated to run from Feb. 12-18 in Cameroon.

Volleyball national team head coach Paul Bitok has named the final 12-man team for the 2014 FIVB World Championships qualifiers, which is slated to run from Feb. 12-18 in Cameroon.

The surprise inclusion in the final squad is former U21 right attacker Nelson Murangwa, who earns his first senior team call. Also in the team is former U20 team skipper Aimable Mutuyimana.

Bitok is targeting top spot in the Pool, which also includes hosts Cameroon, Algeria, Nigeria and Gabon. This year’s FIVB Men’s World Championships is scheduled to run from August 30 to September 21.

After announcing his final team, Bitok vowed, "We need to be among the best teams in Africa and I believe we are capable of achieving it. If we qualify, it will be one of the best achievements for Rwandan volleyball.”

 "I cannot guarantee anything but the most important thing is preparations have been going well. We will give our best in every match,” added the former Kenyan international.
