Patrick Byukusenge, one of Rwanda’s cycling top talents, will spend time training at the prestigious Africa Continental Centre in South Africa, according to local cycling federation boss Aimable Bayingana.

Confirming the development yesterday, Bayingana said the youngster, who is expected to leave on Monday, will train at the centre for two and half months.

In South Africa, Patrick, a young brother of Team Rwanda captain Nathan Byukunsenge, will join countrymen Adrien Niyonshuti, Janvier Hadi and Bonaventure Uwizeyimana. 

"We want to give our riders good training as we prepare them to be top professionals,” Bayingana told Times Sport.

Patrick Byukusenge made his Tour of Rwanda debut with Muhabura club during last year’s edition.

Meanwhile, 19-year old Valens Ndayisenga is expected to join Swiss-based World Cycling Centre in June, while teammate Bonaventure Uwizeyimana, 21, is close to joining French cycling team Europcar.

Niyonshuti was the first Rwandan cyclist to train at the Africa Continental Centre Training Camp – in 2008.

After a spell at the prestigious centre, the 25-year old later joined Team MTN Energade in 2009.
