President Paul Kagame yesterday arrived in Praia, Cape Verde, for the annual Africa Innovation Summit that brings together entrepreneurs, innovators, financiers, policymakers and researchers to conduct an extensive dialogue on innovation on the continent. 

President Paul Kagame yesterday arrived in Praia, Cape Verde to attend the annual Africa Innovation Summit.

Held under the theme: "Showcasing Africa’s Emerging Innovation Centres” the summit brings together entrepreneurs, innovators, financiers, policy makers and researchers to conduct an extensive dialogue on innovation on the continent.

The President is expected to deliver a keynote address today and participate in a discussion themed: "Leading Innovation in Africa” with the President of Cape Verde, Jorge Carlos de Almeida Fonseca, and former Mozambican President Joaquim Chissano.

An exhibition featuring important innovations and innovators from around the continent will be part of the summit.

The first annual summit is a partnership between the Cape Verdean Government with the African Development Bank, Economic Community for West African States, the New Partnership for Africa’s Development, and private companies in the country.

The Summit will focus on the ecosystem of Africa’s emerging innovation centres; policies to promote innovation; entrepreneurs and innovation; financing innovation and; educational systems and innovation.

Like Rwanda, Cape Verde features positively in the ease of the global doing business ranking reports.

In 2013 Rwanda and Cape Verde were among the 10 economies in Sub-Saharan Africa that improved the regulatory environment to starting and operation of local firms.

The two countries are also on track to achieve nearly all of their Millennium Development Goals by 2015.
