DEFENDING CHAMPIONS Challengers and White Clouds got off to a bright start as they won their opening matches in the 2014 VR Naidu/RCA T20 tournament played over the weekend at Kicukiro cricket ground.

Mary Maina led White Clouds as they beat Queens of Victory CC by 8 wickets in its first encounter.

After winning the toss, White Clouds CC skipper decided to ball first and limited Queens Victory CC batting to a paltry 60 runs in the allotted 20 overs. Betty Mukunzi 3/15 and Teta Linda 2/13 were their tormentors.

"Knowing that we were chasing 60 runs in 20 overs made life a bit easy for us,” said Maina who scored 23 runs not out and was named woman of match.

In the men’s category, Challengers CC showed their eagerness to retain the trophy after they thumped a youthful Impala Titans CC by 81 runs.

In form batsmen Praveen Kumar (46) and Subhasis Samal (55) helped CCC reach 189/4 in 20 overs.

In response, veteran Emmanuel Byiringiro’s knock of 54 runs off 37 balls couldn’t save his team as they were all out in 19.4 overs scoring 108.

Meanwhile, Right Guards CC got off a false start after giving away a win to Kigali CC. After winning the toss RGCC decided to bat and scored 123/9 in 20 overs. KCC won the game by 4 wickets.
