In my opinion, 90% of boarding schools in Rwanda are not equipped enough to be boarding schools. I spent all my six years in boarding schools and I would never send my child there because I don’t need them to feel like I’ve dumped him there and that I don’t care about them.

If there are no professional guides, the environment in those schools could easily plant that mindset into students, and this is the reason some students feel unsafe while at boarding schools.

Remember one school principal who, a few months ago, harshly beat up a female student until she brought the matter to the attention of the authorities who later rushed her to hospital?

The only thing that kept me alive was that I was older and I hated to see how little boys and girls had to struggle to fit in.

I’ve been there and had to tell children how their parents don’t hate them, but that they are just confused about what boarding schools really are.
