DEFENDING champions Rayon Sports have offered Belgian coach Luc Eymael a six-month contract which will see him earn US$4000 (approx Rfw2.7 million) per month.

Rayon Sports chairman Theogene Ntampaka confirmed the development yesterday after a long-week of talks.

"We have agreed a six-month contract with Eymael as we assess his work and depending on his performance, we will offer him a two-year contract after July 31,” Ntampaka said.

Eymael, who has been holding training sessions with the Nyanza-based club since Tuesday, will make his debut impression this afternoon as AS Muhanga takes on his team. The former AFC Leopards’ coach arrived in Kigali last Saturday.

Eymael takes over from Frenchman Didier Gomes da Rosa, who resigned three months ago and has since been appointed the coach of Cameroon’s Coton Sport de Garoua. Gomes was earning US$3000 (about Rwf2m) in monthly wages minus other bonuses.

Targets set

He has been tasked to win at least one major trophy for which Rayon Sports is competing including the league, Peace Cup, Cecafa Kagame Cup and or reach the third round of the CAF Champions League.

Rayon Sport’s continental bid starts next weekend when seven-time league champions play away to Congolese side AC Leopards in their CAF Champions League preliminary fixture.

Upon his arrival in Rwanda, Eymael said, "I have watched them play against (Kiyovu) and they look a very organized side. Mine is to make sure that they perform well and retain the league title. We also have a continental assignment which I want the team to do well.”

Eymael has vast experience in African football having had stints with clubs like Vita Club of Congo, Missile FC in Gabon, MC Oran of Algeria and AFC Leopards’ of Kenya.
