Rwanda to face Algeria in V-ball world cup qualifiers opener

Rwanda senior men’s volleyball team will face Algeria on February 13 in the first match of the final round of the 2014 FIVB Men’s World Championships qualifiers scheduled for February 12-18 in Cameroon.

Rwanda senior men’s volleyball team will face Algeria on February 13 in the first match of the final round of the 2014 FIVB Men’s World Championships qualifiers scheduled for February 12-18 in Cameroon.

FIVB men’s world championships are slated for August 30 to September 21 in Poland.

Rwanda will tussle it out against hosts Cameroon the next day before playing Gabon and Nigeria on February 15 and 16 respectively. The top team in the pool will join the winners of the other two pools to represent Africa in Poland.

Rwanda is continuing their preparations with intensive trainings at Amahoro Indoor Stadium.

Algeria-based duo Christopher Mukunzi (El Fanar) and Lawrence Yakan Guma (ESS) is expected in the country this weekend to join their team-mates ahead of the qualifiers.

Paul Bitok’s side is scheduled to play five build-up matches, two against Botswana national team; they will arrive in Kigali tomorrow for another pair of matches this weekend. Both teams met last weekend and Rwanda won both matches 3-1 and 3-0 respectively.

After this weekend, the team will travel to Nairobi where they will play their Kenyan counterparts as well as top clubs; Prisons and GSU.

In the other Pool to be hosted by Kenya from February 5 to 11, includes the hosts Kenya, Cape Verde, Zambia, Botswana and African champions Egypt. The third Pool to be staged in Tunisia from March 2 to 8, has the hosts Tunisia, Seychelles, Congo Brazzaville, Niger and Senegal.
