Ysolde Shimwe is an upcoming designer and founder of Uzuri K&Y designs whose pieces were showcased at Kigali fashion Week recently. She spoke to Society Magazine’s Sonia Tona about her fashion sense.How would you describe your fashion sense? The most important thing to me is to feel good, not only comfortable but also happy about what I am wearing. I think that I am not an ultra-feminine type dresser; I don’t like showing a lot of skin. I think my dress sense is more casual and classy with a touch of individuality.What’s your favourite clothing item? I would say that my favourite clothing item is a dress. There is nothing I feel more comfortable in than a dress. It doesn’t matter whether it’s short ormaxi or if I’m going to school, shopping, a meeting or even the hospital. Where do you shop for clothes?I don’t have a specific shop. I also like making my own clothes. I mostly consider seasons, trademarks, and also colour when shopping. If something catches my eye and it fits me, I will not leave the shop without it. What is your favourite fashion accessory? My favourite accessories are necklaces, earrings and rings as they go together. I also like sunglasses; I wear them even inthe house.What is your favourite clothing item on a guy? Most guys don’t care about their shoes. They will smell goodbut when you look at the shoes, you get disappointed. They are definitely my favourite thing on a guy. What’s your favourite scent? I love Green Tea because it smellsnatural and fresh.Any fashion advice? I believe that what you wear and how you present yourself is asilent introduction to who you are. I would advise people to always dress to impress and wear what they feel comfortable in.
