The local football governing body, Ferwafa has turned down an opportunity to host the first Cecafa Women Championship event.

The Council for the East and Central Africa football Associations (Cecafa) had requested Ferwafa to take up the task of hosting the first edition of the women’s event.

However, the federation’s Chief Executive Officer, Jules Kalisa has said that Rwanda can’t host the event because of few Cecafa approved stadiums.

"As you are aware, the federation doesn’t have stadiums and the few that are available will be used by respective clubs in preparations for next season’s National football League,” Kalisa said.
"We are also not financially stable to host all the regional teams to this championship,” he added.

The Cecafa Women Championship was due to be held on October 19-28 in Zanzibar but the latter declined to host the inaugural championship due to financial constraints.

The Cecafa Secretary General, Nicholas Musonye has been appealing to various countries including Uganda and Rwanda to host the event but all have turned down the offer.

The Uganda Football Federation declined Cecafa’s appeal to host the event citing accommodations problems.

Many of the hotels which can accommodate respective teams in Kampala are under renovation for the Commonwealth Head of Governments Meeting (CHOGM) due next month.
