Local traditional music group, Gakondo, will kick off their country tour on February 6. The one month tour will feature performances of traditional Rwandan music and dance.
Intore Masamba, the leader of the group said the tour is in line with the group’s mission to promote traditional music and culture.
"This is the first time we are going on a country tour. However, this time we carefully planned and we promise our fans across the country the best traditional performances ever,” Massamba said.
Masamba said although the group intends to reach out to all Rwandans, more focus will be on the young to teach them to appreciate the unique Rwandan culture and specifically music.
Gakondo Group, which comprises traditional musicians, was formed last year with the aim to keep the Rwandan traditional music alive.
The artistes include Jules Sentore, Daniel Ngarukiye, Sofie Nzayisenga, Michel Ngabo, Manu Habumuremyi, Lionel Mulinda, Abédé, Didier, Tamfum, Intore Masamba, Claude, Nyamaswa, Teta Birangwa, Maria Yohani, and Jean-Paul Samputu.
