Rwanda U-20 team has been drawn against South Sudan in the qualifying first round of the road to 2015 Senegal Africa Youth Championship finals.

According to the draw, which was held in Cape Town over the weekend, Rwanda will be away in the first leg on the weekend of April 4-6 before hosting the return leg in Kigali on the weekend of April 25-27.

Richard Tardy’s team, if they progress to the second round, will come up against tougher opposition in Gabon in May and should they win, they will face the winner between Sierra Leone/Guinea and Ghana in the final round.

Tardy’s team started drills yesterday at Ferwafa turf after they went into residential camp on Sunday. The 24-man squad comprises mainly of players from the national league.

The team, which is camping at Hill Top Hotel, is scheduled to play against league side Police FC in a warm-up match today at Ferwafa ground. Last year, Rwanda failed to go past the first round, losing 4-2 to Mali.

Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Egypt, Gabon, Ghana, Mali, Morocco, Nigeria, DR Congo, South Africa and Zambia all moved straight into the second round.

The semifinalists in Senegal will represent Africa at the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.
