ENGINEERS BUILDING the Huye stadium in Southern Province have told Sunday Sport that they expect the Rwf3.7billion facility to be ready within the next three months.

Work on the stadium started in 2012 and had been expected to be complete by mid-last year, but was hit by delays which have partly been blamed on the ‘tendering process and administrative procedures.”

Felicien Munyaneza, the Managing Director of Exert Engineering Group (EEG), the company that is was contracted to put up the stadium, told this paper that the stadium will be ready by April.

"Work is advancing well and we are ready to hand over the stadium by April,” Munyaneza said.

He said that the delays were due to a lack of a proper architectural design of the stadium, something he said took months to be availed.

He claimed that ‘real’ construction activities ‘started about seven months ago’ and said they have done their best to ensure that all activities are complete in the shortest possible time.

"We have also faced heavy rains which compelled us to sometimes halt work for some time,” Munyaneza said.

Upon completion, Huye stadium will have a seater capacity of about 10,000 people at the same time and will be the second biggest stadium in the country, so far, after Amahoro national stadium, officials said.

Huye District mayor Eugene Kayiranga Muzuka said, "The stadium will serve the interests of local people and promote sports and entertainment in the district.”

Huye stadium will serve as the home base for the local first division football team, Mukura Victory Sports Club.

The club is currently hosting home matches in Muhanga after HVP Gatagara High School suddenly closed Kamena stadium which served as the home ground for the league side earlier this month.

Mukura has been based at Kamena for the last three months when activities to renovate Huye stadium started.
