Editor,The issue of educating girls is cross cutting and as the saying goes, "Educating a girl is educating a nation”. For there to be any meaningful change in future, there must be awareness as the first element of change. The girls ought to be conscious of their roles throughout their journey to adulthood/motherhood. I think gender-based issues do arise in some cases as a result of ignorance and lack of improvement in the quality of thought. It is through education/improvement of the quality of thought that we shall witness women empowerment that leads to improved quality of life and well-being. With that, issues about women stereotypes will definitely fade away.We need to stand up and girl’s support education if we are to work miracles. We need to work together to help women for sustainable emancipation.Power comes from within, and women become weak once they think that they should depend on men for everything.Otherwise for Africa and the world the best is yet to come.David Nkusi, RwandaReaction to the story, "Kagame urges nations on girls’ empowerment” (The New Times, January 24)
