NYARUGENGE - A two-week English-language teacher trainers’ workshop closed yesterday with thirty receiving certificates at Chez John.

The English course was sponsored and facilitated by the United States Embassy in Rwanda through the English Language Specialist Program which is under the US State Department and operates through its embassies.

In this undertaking, the United States embassy worked together with the Ministry of Education at all levels of the course.

"As a ministry, we are focusing on the issue of training people in science, technology and languages, mainly the English language.

The US embassy has for long been helping us in training trainers of the English language, and we are really grateful for such a great service,” commented Narcisse  Musabeyezu, the General Inspector of Education in the ministry.

In her statement, the trainer of this group, Alexandria Hadden, expressed gratitude over the way the teachers’ trainers had participated and behaved throughout this course.

"It’s been a great group, highly participatory and open to learn new things like techniques of teaching the English language and motivation of learners. Am sure this group is going to impact immensely wherever they will train others from,” commended Hadden.

During an interview with one of the beneficiaries, Fred Ruzindana, he appreciated the course saying he has learnt a lot more than he expected

"I have changed my perception and generally my style of teaching the English language. I have learnt new techniques like how to motivate and involve all learners in the process,” said Ruzindana.

"The English language is becoming a necessity for survival and economic development and since we have gone into the East African Community where English is highly spoken, Rwandans who know the language will immensely benefit,” added Musabeyezu.
