Police in Musanze District are holding a man accused of killing his spouse. The suspect is alleged to have used a water pipe to hit the deceased twice on the head, killing her instantly.The deceased was identified as Beatrice Uwamahoro 35.The incident took place in Gacaca sector last Friday night.The 37-year-old suspect, names withheld pending judgement, is detained at Muhoza Police station.The couple has been living together for years and has four children.Superintendent Emmanuel Hitayezu, the police spokesperson in the Northern Province, said investigations into the murder are still ongoing, but said the couple was for a long time embroiled in consistent wrangles over suspected infidelity on the part of the husband."The man has a history of violence. He served two-and-half-years in jail for the same offence but still he did not reform. Our preliminary investigations show this was planned murder,” Hitayezu said.The suspect was arrested by local security personnel on patrol while he attempted to flee.Speaking from police, the suspect confessed to killing his spouse, but added that he did so in self-defence.The couple’s children are currently being catered for by neighbours.Supt Hitayezu urged residents to always resolve their issues amicably.Murder attracts life sentence upon conviction.
