Niger v Uganda

Atraco Fc’s Joseph Kabagambe has been included in the Uganda Cranes squad for the 2010 World Cup/Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Niger set for September 6 in Niamey.

Kabagambe is among nine professionals who were summoned by the Uganda football governing body, Fufa for the crucial Niger fixture.

Kabagambe is set to join the Cranes camp early this month for intensive training in preparations for the crucial tie.

Though Uganda football federation has named Kabagambe in the 24-man national squad, the latter has not kicked a ball since late June due to a knee injury.

The skilled midfielder missed the local league action for the entire June, the Amahoro Cup championship.

However, there is no place on the team for Rayon Sport defender Shaka Okello and Atraco trio of Hamis Kitagenda, Alimansi Kadogo and Godfrey Kateregga.

Banants (Armenia) midfielder Noah ‘Babadi’ Kasule and Nalubaale FC forward Geoffrey Sserunkuuma were the surprise omissions from the list read.

According to Uganda’s Daily Monitor, the eight other professions are Denis Onyango(Supersport), Timothy Batabaire Bloemfontein Celtics), Ibrahim Sekajja (Red Bulls Salzburg) and Nestory Kizito (Vojvodina), St.George pair of Hannington Kalysebuula and Hassan Bajope, Mike Sserumaga (Helsingborg), Geoffrey Massa(Jomo Cosmos), David Obua (Hearts)  and Abubaker Tabula (Sundvall).

Assistant coaches David Otti and Sam Timbe are to handle the team in the interim period.

The new Cranes coach will be unveiled on August 15. Fufa has short-listed three candidates (names withheld) for the job vacated by Laszlo Csaba last month.

Uganda which was drawn to play in Group 2 of the 2010 qualifiers along with Niger, Benin and Angola is on level points (seven) with Angola.
