National team, Rayon to spice up Baton relay

V-ball matchNational team    vs    Rayon Sports    4pmNATIONAL MEN’S senior volleyball team and Rayon Sports face-off today at Amahoro indoor stadium starting at 3pm as part of the celebrations to mark the Commonwealth Queen’s Baton relay in Rwanda.The Queen’s Baton made its maiden visit to the country on Wednesday. The Baton was received by the Rwanda National Olympics and Sports Committee Chairman Robert Bayigamba, who expressed delight over the honour to have Queen’s Baton Relay in Rwanda – six months ahead of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.After touring Rwanda’s top tourist destinations in Musanze and Nyanza yesterday, the Queen’s Baton will be moved to Gisozi Genocide Memorial centre between 8 and 9am from where it will be taken to Amahoro stadium.After, it will be moved to Kimisagara Youth Sports Centre where different sports activities will be held between 10am to 1pm. The Baton will then be moved around from KBC round-about in Kimihurura to Amahoro indoor stadium where the volleyball match between the national team and the newly formed Rayon Sports will be played. The activities will conclude with a cocktail at the Kigali Serena Hotel in the evening.While the national team will be using the friendly match as part of preparations ahead of the FIVB world Cup qualifiers due in Cameroon in February, Rayon is preparing for their debut season in the national league, which also starts later next month.The Queen’s Baton arrived in Rwanda last night. Rwanda is the 26th stop of the Baton’s 71 Commonwealth destinations. As part of its epic journey, the baton will travel to Asia, Oceania, Africa, Americas (south), the Caribbean, Americas (North) and Europe. The baton will then complete the final part of the journey in Scotland where the baton will spend a total of 40 days.The Queen’s Baton leaves the country tomorrow for Tanzania, as it continues its East African tour.Rwanda will take part in this year’s 20th Commonwealth Games in Scotland between July 23 and August 3 in different disciplines such as athletics, boxing, judo, cycling, swimming and boxing.
