AFTER MAKING a disappointing start, the national cycling team fought back on the second day (Awoua - Oyem 120km) of the 2014 La Tropicale Amissa Bongo international race in Gabon to move into the top ten on Tuesday.

Janvier Hadi finished in 24th position, which moved him into tenth over all among African riders, while 19-year-old Valens Ndayisenga came in 22nd position.

Other members performed not so well with Bonaventure Uwizeyimana coming in 32nd, Joseph Biziyaremye (39), Hategeka Gasore (40) and Nsengimana Jean Bosco (42).

Belgian Jerome Baugnies, riding for Wanty Groupe Gobert, won the stage in a time of 2:54:25, followed by Spanish Sanchez Luis Leon, who won the first stage.

Disappointing start

Team Rwanda riders made a disappointing start in the 2014 La Tropicale Amissa Bongo international Cycling race with none finishing in the top 10 in the opening stage in Cameroon, 149 km (Bitam - Ebolow) on Monday.

The best Rwandan was Adrien Niyonshuti, who is competing for his South African team, MTN Qhubekha, having come 15th in 03h35’21’’ and Bonaventure Uwizeyimana was in 25th position after he clocked 03h51’05’’.

Stage one results for other Rwandans; Gasore Hategeka (50), Joseph Biziyaremye (52), Janvier Hadi (53), Jean Bosco Nsengimana (75), Valens Ndayisenga (84).

By press time the competition was in stage the third stage from Ndjole - Lambaréné 133 km.
