THREE artificial turf stadiums are set to be constructed in the Eastern Province districts of Ngoma, Nyagatare and Bugesera, according to the Ministry of Sports and Culture. According to the Director of Sports in the Ministry of Sports and Culture, Emmanuel Bugingo, the stadiums will be constructed with financial support from the districts and the Province respectively. Bugesera stadium will have a capacity of 15,000; Ngoma will have a seater-capacity of 6000 while Nyagatare stadium will accommodate 7000 fans respectively. As part of extending modern infrastructure closer to people so as to develop sports in the country, the three stadiums will follow the others which were constructed recently such as the 13000-seater Huye stadium which will be opened later this year and Stade de Muhanga. Meanwhile, work at the 45-0000 seater stadium in Gahanga is yet to begin as days are running out ahead of the 2016 CHAN tournament which will be held in Kigali. The Ministry of Sports and Culture is expected to also renovate Amahoro stadium, Stade de Kigali and Rubavu stadium so as to meet the needed requirements ahead of the 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN). Rwanda was endorsed to host the 2016 CHAN edition after the country staged two successful youth continental tournaments in a space of three years, including the 2009 U-20 Africa Youth Championships as well as the U-17 Championship in 2011.
