GASABO - Compassion International, a charity organisation that sponsors handicapped pupils and students, has launched a leadership programme aimed at promoting leadership values in the young generation.
The programme was launched during a four-day meeting that brought together the organisation’s representatives from Africa and America at Hotel Novotel in Kigali.
Dubbed the ‘Leadership Development Programme (LDP)’, it will in future become a platform from which Rwandan students will access sponsorship up to university level.
According to the Country Director, Samuel Rugambage, the sponsorship programme will effectively begin next year with an intake of 35 students who will have successfully passed the national examinations for Rwanda.
Rugambage underscored that it is a Christian-based leadership programme will enable students from different schools to gain knowledge on Christian leadership.
He also revealed that by the year 2009, Compassion International would have opened its gates to primary and secondary students to make use of the Under-graduate sponsorship programme.
Other programmes of Compassion International include: Child Development through Sponsorship Programme (CDSP), Child Survivor Programme (CSP) and Complimentary Intervention (CIV).
