Prices of rice have reduced by Rwf100 in markets and retail shops across the City of Kigali, a mini-survey conducted by Business Times indicates. A kilogramme of imported rice is now Rwf900 in Kimironko, Kicukiro and Remera markets compared to from Rwf1,000 last week. That of locally-produced rice goes for Rwf650 compared to  Rwf700.Traders have attributed the decline to increased supply of the cereal on the market."More dealers have joined the rice import business and there was also a good harvest,” Innocent Bahizi, the chairman Kimironko market, said.However, prices of other commodities are stable. A kilogramme of sugar costs Rwf800, that of beans is at Rwfw500 and Rwf450 in Remera and Giporoso markets, respectively, unchanged from last week. Bananas cost between Rwf160 and Rwf180 a kilo in Kikicuro and Nyamirambo markets, millet flour costs Rwf1,220 per a kilogramme and maize flour goes for Rwf650 in Kimironko and Nyarugenge markets, respectively.A one kilogramme loaf of bread costs between Rwf800 and Rwf1,500, depending on the brand, size and type.Irish potatoes are at between Rwf180 and Rwf200 a kilo in Nyarugenge and Nyabugogo markets and fresh peas go for Rwf1,200 a kilogramme, that of beef is at between Rwf2,000 and Rwf2,300, while fish costs Rwf3,000 in Kimirinko market.

A tray of eggs is at Rwf2,500 in Kicukiro market, while a kilo of mangoes costs between Rwf1,500 and Rwf2,000, passion fruits go for Rwf1,200, oranges Rwf2,000 a kilo, while apples are going for Rwf2,400 a kilogramme. An average-sized pineapple costs Rwf500.
