The Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Donatille Mukabalisa, has urged Musanze District residents to take advantage of the good weather conditions and tourism potential of the area to improve their livelihood.

The Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Donatille Mukabalisa, has urged Musanze District residents to take advantage of the good weather conditions and tourism potential of the area to improve their livelihood.Mukabalisa was speaking in Musanze on Saturday, where she and other MPs joined Kabirizi Cell residents in the monthly community work (Umuganda)."You are blessed with fertile soils and good weather conditions suitable for agriculture. Besides, the region is a tourism hub, do not misuse that opportunity, take advantage of it to boost agriculture and your incomes,” Mukabalisa said.She hailed the commitment of residents to develop the district, saying it leads other districts in social economic development."Musanze tops other districts in poverty reduction where 80 per cent have basic needs such as better living conditions, better health among residents and the promotion of education among others,” the Speaker said.Electricity burdenResidents had the opportunity to interact with MPs, with many asking for advocacy to extend power to their sector.They said although the area has more hydropower plants, electricity remains a dream for the majority of the residents.The Governor of Northern Province, Aime Bosenibamwe, commended the MPs for joining in community work and urged residents to work hard to maintain the current provincial development.Meanwhile, on the same day the lawmakers and local leaders commissioned New Vision Sacco of Gacaca Sector. The Sacco has already accumulated more than Rwf400 million.Commissioning the facility, the Speaker urged area residents to embrace a saving culture and work with financial institutions to grow their businesses."It is amazing that your Sacco has accumulated over Rwf400 million. It is good that you work with banks, especially women. Managers told us more women join Saccos than men. Men, too, should join banks to boost your business,” she said.Musanze has 16 Saccos spread across the district and they are playing a role in social development.SecurityThe Speaker urged residents to be vigilant and be responsible for each other’s security, saying there can never be development without security."Let us together build our country, train the young to be patriotic and model children into future leaders,” the Speaker added.
