It was party time last Friday for Rwanda mountain tea farmers as they celebrated the tea farmers day locally known as "Umunsi w’umuhinzi w’icyayi” that was held at Kitabi Tea Factory. After the long speeches from several dignitaries, the farmers were given a surprise dose of entertainment from renowned hip hop artiste Jay Polly who performed some of his hit songs like DeuxFoisDeux, Hisha Mu Nda and Ikosora among others.Jay Polly put up a good performance as his thrilled fans danced and sang along their favourite songs from the Tuff Gang founder. To prove his popularity across the country, even passers-by could be seen outside the factory trying to peep through the fence to catch a glimpse of the hip hop star as he did his thing. Also present was Pacco band that plays from Nyamagabe which did not disappoint either as they did live renditions of old Kinyarwanda songs and some reggae songs from the late Lucky Dube, which excited the farmers. The event aimed at celebrating the tea farmers and also the achievements the factory attained last year, saw the top 14 tea farmers walking away with a cow each while over fifty goats were given to the rest of tea farmers. The governor of Southern Province Alphonse Munyentwari who was the chief guest commended Rwanda Mountain Tea for transforming the lives of the local communities through their partnership in tea farming. He urged the public to work hard, to live in harmony and be united if they are to develop.
