THE NATIONAL youth athletics championship will attract over 90 athletes from six local clubs. The event kicks off this morning at 9am at Amahoro national stadium.However, organizers, the Rwanda Athletics Federation put strict conditions for registration as only clubs with legal status will take part.The six clubs with legal status and registered for the one-day event are; APR, Mountain Classic of Gicumbi District, Rubavu-based Vision Jeunesse, Rwamagana, SEC academy and Nyamasheke.Surprisingly though, there will be no awards for the winners, according to the athletics federation Secretary General, Johnson Rukundo."We have not planned for any awards for the winners because the competition is aimed at selecting the national youth team that will represent Rwanda at the ANOCA Zone V Championships,” Rukundo told Saturday Sport.By press time, only three of the six clubs; Mountain Classic, Rwamagana and Nyamasheke had submitted their lists of athletes.Participants will compete in seven different races namely; 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1000m, 1500m and 3000m.
