Isaro foundation a local organisation that among others aims at contributing to the promotion of the reading culture and quality of education will this year give out 50,000 books to various schools around the country. Both primary and secondary schools will benefit from the initiative, according to the Chief Executive Officer of the organisation, Jean Leon Iragena."We are making sure that schools have libraries with books that will enable students embrace reading; and this is actually the reason we have decided to give out these books as a starting point,” Iragena. He added that the first beneficiaries of this initiative are schools which have applied for support in boosting their libraries. Iragena added that after distribution of the books, the organisation will also have a follow up strategy in ensuring the schools make good use of the books. He made the remarks during a press conference in which the media was briefed about the organisation’s plans to further contribute towards the quality of education and handing the 22000 books to the first benficiary schools.  Among other initiatives, the organisation periodically organises reading and writing competitions. Officials say that this is aimed at building a strong foundation for students to check on their capacity to understand what they read.Member of Parliament, Jean Marie Vianney Gatabazi, said the initiative will support schools to have reading materials. He noted that lack of books for schools or in their libraries contributes to students not considering reading as a very important factor in their education.
