A one-year-and-a-half old girl died on spot  the spot while two others sustained injuries in a grenade blast at the home of the Mayor of Musanze District yesterday evening.Unidentified assailants attacked Mayor Winifrida Mpembyemungu’s home in Giramahoro cell, Muhoza sector, at around 6pm.The deceased girl had been adopted by the mayor. Supt Emmanuel Hitayezu, the Northern Province regional Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, saying that the police was still investigating the case."The baby died on the spot and two other people were injured,” he said, adding that more details would emerge later. By press time, the home was still cordoned off by security.Neighbours said they heard a loud blast and got out only to learn it was a grenade.The residents said the grenade went off as soon as the mayor’s driver entered the home.Early last month, unidentified people shot dead a police officer in the same sector.
