RUSIZI — Members of Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF) in Rusizi district over the weekend built 5 houses for Rwandans returning to Gashonga sector as former refugees from Tanzania.

The houses located in Munini village, Kabakobwa Cell were constructed in partnership with army, police and sector authorities last Saturday during communal work locally known as Umuganda.

Speaking to The New Times, Joseph Tuyishime, on behalf of the members, said they resolved to construct the houses because the returnees lack proper shelter.

"We decided to construct the houses for our fellow Rwandans who were evicted from Tanzania in order to improve their living standards,” Tuyishimire said.

He promised that they would provide more support and mobilise other residents to offer financial aid. The beneficiaries were urged to properly maintain the new houses in order for them to last longer.

Daniel Kamanzi, one of the beneficiaries thanked the members for helping him get shelter.
