SECOND DIVISION side Isonga FC is one of six teams taking part in the 2014 Academie de Football le Messenger tournament, which started on Friday in Ngozi in Burundi. The three-day tournament is sponsored by Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza.The team left the country on Thursday and will be competing with five other teams which include; Burundi Eco-Foot de Bukavu, Frambeau du Centre, Croco FC, and Umoja FC. Isonga were due to start their campaign against tournament hosts, Messenger Ngozi yesterday.According to Isonga FC Secretary General, Sandra Mutatsimpundu, the team, flying high in Pool B in the second division league, will be gunning to bring home the trophy.She said, "We hope the boys can come with the trophy, but most importantly, this tournament is good in terms of fitness for the players as the team seeks to bounce back to the first division.”Yves Rwasamanzi’s team, that was relegated last season after two seasons in topflight division, will play the second game of the tournament against Umoja FC today before facing Frambeau du Centre on Sunday. The team that wins more games will be crowned champions.Isonga FC was founded three years ago as a team of youngsters who represented Rwanda in the U-17 African Youth Championships (in Kigali) and the Fifa World Cup in Mexico in 2011.
