Rwandan winger Noam Emeran has said that he left English Premier league giants Manchester United in order to play regular football.

The French born Rwandan impressed in the Manchester United senior team’s pre-season tour after scoring against Leeds United and Chester and early this week signed for Dutch Eerste divisie side FC Groningen.

He was on the radar of several teams, including Strasbourg, Anderlecht and Norwich City before opting to move to Gronningen on a four-year deal for a fee that will rise up to one million Pounds Sterling.

"I regularly participated in the first team training of Manchester United. My former teammate Donny van de Beek told me that FC Groningen is a good club, with a lot of support and is like a family. I have seen a video of the supporters during the previous home game. They really want to fight for their club and I want to fight for the supporters.” Emeran said adding that by signing for the Dutch club, he hopes to get regular first team football.

Emeran stated that he is ready to shine at his new club as he hopes to become a great player.

"I'm looking forward to excelling at the club.”

"FC Groningen has a good plan for me and the conversations showed that the club knew me well as a player. This is the best choice for me to develop both on and off the field. My goals are of course to play a lot, score goals, provide assists, in short, become a better version of myself," he added.

Emeran, born to a Rwandan mother and a French father who played for the Amavubi, has been capped twice by the European nation at U16 level.

The 20-year-old star is free to play for the Rwandan national team and he is one of the players Amavubi are considering getting into their fold ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers which begins in November.
