This organization aims to act with complete impartiality and without discrimination based on nationality, race, gender, class, religion, political opinion, among others. It is a humanitarian relief organization auxiliary to the public authorities in accordance with the Geneva Conventions.

All of its activities are undertaken on the basis of the seven fundamental principles of the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement. These are: Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary service, Unity and Universality.

Its humanitarian actions for the past 50 years have been made possible by the commitment of members and volunteers as well as the support provided by different partners, including the Government of Rwanda.
