Rwandan teachers have been accepted as members of the Forum for East African Teachers Trade Union (FEATU) and will start enjoying benefits which include advocacy and protection of their rights.

Rwanda joined the regional body early this week to ensure that Rwandan teachers contribute to the empowerment of East African teachers.

According to the chairman of the Rwandan Teachers’ Trade Union, Narcisse Kayiranga, there are many benefits meant for Rwandan teachers after joining the FEATU, including training.

Members adopted a Memorandum of Understanding which stated: ‘After understanding the vision and objectives of FEATU we (Rwanda) accept to become a member of the forum,’ they announced.

The MoU also reads in part that Rwanda is ready to respect the rules and guidelines of FEATU.
