The accident occurred when a truck, registration number RAB 253, rammed into two motorcycles in Muhoza Sector, Musanze District.It is alleged that the truck driver was driving while speaking on phone when he veered off the lane.Supt Emmanuel Hitayezu, the Northern Province regional Police spokesperson, attributed the accident to reckless driving.He said the same driver had been fined by traffic police due to speeding in the morning hours.One of the deceased (motorcyclist) was only identified as Mudasiba, while the other victim, a boy who was knocked while crossing the road, had not been identified by press time. The injured were rushed to Ruhengeri Hospital where they were receiving treatment. "The driver was speeding and drove on the wrong side before knocking two motorcycles. The boy was hit while crossing the road,” said an eye witness.But the driver denied driving while speaking on phone and blamed the accident on mechanical problems of the truck.Hitayezu urged drivers to avoid speeding and talking on phone while driving.On Christmas eve, one person died and 11 others sustained serious injuries on the same road when two vehicles collided.Accidents in Musanze-Cyanika road have been frequent and police say they are strengthening the security on the road.
