Meet Samuel Irimaso: A promising Rwandan DJ

Talented and fresh-faced, Samuel Irimaso Bwanakweli, aka DJ Trap Boy, 19,  began landing spinning gigs since his early teenage days. A DJ with the gift of the gab and a melodious voice, Irimaso is one of the most exciting and ground breaking young deejays to cause a stir on the local entertainment scene in recent years.He has performed at major events in the country, such as the Pan-African Dance Festival (FESPAD), Avec Classe Summer Edition, High School Idol, Art of Hip-hop the list goes on. In addition, he is a frequent video mixer during the entertainment show IKN, on Rwanda Television.Progressive career Born in Kigali on May 11, 1994, Irimaso says he was influenced and inspired by his friends to become a DJ. He started his DJ’ng career at the age of 16, and made his break working in a friend’s bar called Eagle.A few months later, Dark Matter Entertainment signed him as a resident DJ. After a few months, Irimaso quit DJ’ng in bars and opted for bigger public events and house parties. During his childhood, the young DJ desired to become a professional singer or dancer but all this, he says, changed due to his busy schedule at school. His passion now is making beats and he also hopes to start helping young people who have dreams of making their break in the music industry.Irimaso is in S.6 at Glory High School, doing Maths, Economics and Computer Sciences. Under his label Trap Boy Music, he has sold over 50 instrumentals (beats). He has also worked with the biggest dance crews around like Sick City, Br8, Fantasy; Krest Gang among othersAfter completing high school, Imiraso hopes to go to South Africa to purse a course in DJ’ng to improve his talent. He draws his inspiration from Pierre David Guetta, a prominent DJ in France, and is grateful to his parents for their support and making him realise his dream.Still working from home with only a few bits and pieces of hardware, this young talent is soon to rise to the top. The disc jockey urged young people not to give up on their talents and passion—and work hard to achieve their dreams, despite the challenges along the way.To say that 2013 has been an incredible year for this young DJ would be quite an understatement. Irimaso has become a hot-favourite for many big entertainment organisers and party-goers. And with some very exciting gigs in the pipeline, 2014 looks set to be a very good year for him as well.
