RWANDA Handball Federation (Ferwahand) is celebrating 30 years of the existence and the achievements attained over the years.Ceremonies are set for this coming Sunday at Kimisagara Youth Centre in Nyarugenge, Kigali.Ceremonies will be preceded by the annual ‘Coupe du Rwanda’ tournament.Six local handball league teams, namely champions Gicumbi, title-holders Police, APR, Nyakabanda, NUR and KIE are set to participate in the competitions that start on Monday at the preliminary round and end on Sunday with the final match."We are celebrating 30 years of handball existence in Rwanda and the achievements made over those years. It is time to reflect and to set new goals for the future. We still have a long way to go,” Ferwahand chairman Theogene Utabarutse told Times Sport on Thursday.According to the federation secretary general, Alfred Taahirwa, Rwanda was also endorsed to host the 28th edition of the East and Central African Handball championships of clubs scheduled for next year.Police handball club of DR Congo are the defending champions of the regional competition.The 27th edition was staged in Arusha, Tanzania earlier this year. Rwanda hosted the tournament again in 2006 with Kenya claiming the title and the hosts finishing third.
