The local athletics federation (RAF) says it will do everything possible for Rwandan athletics to perform well at the 2014 African cross-country championships scheduled for March 18 in Entebbe, Uganda.Twenty-four Rwandan athletes in four categories (junior and senior teams of both genders) will represent the country at the third edition of the continental tournament. The team is going into camp to prepare for the competitions on January 16, two months before the championships.Speaking to Times Sport on Thursday, the Rwanda Athletics Federation’s Secretary General Johnson Rukundo, said: "We want our athletes to perform well and win medals in the African competitions which is why we are planning to start training camp early enough.”The competition will cover a total distance of 12 and eight kilometers for the male and female senior categories, respectively, while the junior male and female athletes will run eight and six kilometers, respectively.South Africa hosted the first two editions – in 2011 and 2012.Athletes from over 50 African countries are expected to participate in the third edition. The previous championships attracted 160 athletes from 21 African countries.
